Remember the SOS Quinta dos Ingleses billboards

Tired of those who trade trees for concrete and do so as if it were a game without consequences. Tired of seeing the Cascais council insist on a mistake that will affect the lives of our grandchildren and future generations. Tired of such arrogance and zero flexibility to recognise that the destruction of Quinta dos Ingleses is a mistake that will cost everyone dearly, compromising the entire area of Carcavelos and neighbouring areas.

There is still time, and we believe it is possible to have a Quinta for everyone, because FUTURE CITIES WILL BE JUDGED BY THE GREEN SPACES THEY SAVED!

It is unacceptable to destroy a unique 52-hectare rewilded space to make way for an obsolete urban project, shaped by an outdated 1980s vision. Unfortunately, that is the plan of Alves Ribeiro and the Cascais Municipal Council for Carcavelos' green lung. The times we live in demand it: QUINTA DOS INGLESES MUST BE A CLIMATE REFUGE FOR EVERYONE!

Quinta dos Ingleses must be returned to the community, transformed into a true leisure space where nature reclaims its central role, while simultaneously recovering and celebrating the collective memory of Carcavelos. This unique space bore witness to the first football matches in Portugal and the settlement of the British community linked to the submarine telegraph cables, which shaped local customs. It was also here that, for decades, generations shared walks and picnics on summer afternoons. CARCAVELOS HAS A PAST – LET US NOT WIPE OUT HISTORY.

The battle to save Quinta dos Ingleses as it is (or was, given that some of the damage caused by Alves Ribeiro will be irreversible) has been going on for nearly 70 years. Throughout these decades, local citizens have kept up the fight—remaining patient but never giving up, because the population's quality of life, nature, and the future all hang in the balance.

In 2014, we entered the most difficult phase of this struggle with the fateful vote approving the PPERUCS, which escalated in 2024 when Piteira Lopes signed the planning permission licence. Over these ten years, several key players could have changed the course of Quinta's future had they acted in accordance with the public's will. We know who they are, and we have identified them on this poster. We know THE GAME, which HAS GONE ON FOR FAR TOO LONG, but as everyone knows, all games must come to an end, and we have inherited the patience to wait from previous generations. Meanwhile, QUINTA DOS INGLESES HOLDS ITS GROUND.

The death of a squirrel on Avenida Jorge V, an owl found in an unusual place, a hare run over on the side of the N6-5, disoriented hedgehogs – they all show us just how harmful human activity and interference can be to the habitats of the many animals living in these woodlands.

Quinta dos Ingleses is a living ecosystem, and the "home" of our biodiversity faces an imminent threat. In the midst of a housing crisis, it is vital to remember that this green lung is not an empty development plot; it is the irreplaceable refuge for hundreds of species. Destroying this natural heritage to build luxury housing means evicting the fauna and flora that endure there, sentencing Carcavelos' environmental balance to death and turning a sanctuary into a HABITAT IN SOS – THEIR HOME IS AT RISK.
