Joint Statement from Iniciativa Liberal and SOS Quinta dos Inglese

Considering that, above all, what matters is defending Cascais, the unique ecosystem of the Quinta dos Ingleses, and the future of its residents, SOS Quinta dos Ingleses and IL Cascais announce that they share the same concerns regarding the need to preserve the largest possible green area of the Quinta dos Ingleses. They are committed to working together — and with the other candidacies that have signed the local government commitment — to find a way to protect this area of the Quinta.

To that end, the members of IL Cascais elected to local government bodies (the Municipal Assembly and the Parish Assembly of Carcavelos and Parede) undertake to:

a) Promote negotiations, on the part of the local authority, with the developers Alves Ribeiro and St. Julian’s School Association, with the aim of introducing the necessary changes to the project, in order to maximise the green area and create a locally protected zone. This would ensure the establishment of an urban green park larger than currently planned and the harmonious integration of urban development within the surrounding ecosystem; and

b) Present, as the first recommendation of the Parish Assembly of Carcavelos and Parede, the necessary guidelines for implementing this commitment.
