The interplay between legislative changes and the private interests of local councillors

The Hilton issue has highlighted what SOS Quinta dos Ingleses has been asserting for several months regarding the link between legislative changes and the private interests of former and current local councillors. Their aim is to wipe the slate clean on acts that could lead to prison time, whilst simultaneously benefiting certain businessmen.

We welcome the fact that the media is finally giving prominence to what we have been exposing over recent years, specifically regarding the conduct of Miguel Pinto Luz, Carlos Carreiras, and Nuno Piteira Lopes. More importantly, however, is that this must lead to an amendment of the law, reinstating the previous deadline. Otherwise, it will become virtually impossible to challenge illegal planning permissions for urban developments that impact local communities and harm the environment.
